Background :The role and function of the family is needed by sick family members. When one or more family members experience health problems, the family plays an important role in providing support in solving the problem. The form of solving health problems especially in patients with diabetes mellitus is by motivating patients to control blood sugar levels. Regular control of blood sugar levels should be done to prevent complications in the form of gangrene wounds, diabetic coma and diabetic retinopathy. Objective: to determine the relationship between family support and motivation to control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Method: The design in this study used cross sectional design. This study used the sperman rho statistical test to see the relationship between the two variables. This research will be conducted at the Community Health Center in Manggarai Regency. Results: Most of the respondents had enough family support and less motivation to control blood sugar, as many 45 responden with P value 0.046, which means there is a relationship between family support and motivation in controlling blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the Ruteng city health center. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between family support and motivation in controlling blood sugar in type 2 diabetes mellitus in Pusksmas in ruteng city. Suggestion: through this study the researchers suggest that as a health worker it is important to provide counseling to the public about the importance of controlling blood sugar.
