Abstract

Old people (elderly) is someone who is aged 60 and over. With increasing age, physiological function decreases which causes cognitive function disorders. Physical activity is one of the factors that can prevent impaired cognitive function in the elderly. To find out the relationship between physical activity and cognitive function in the elderly in a foster home for the elderly in Papua Province. This type of research is descriptive analytic with a cross sectional study approach. The population is the elderly with a sample of 30 people with a minimum sampling method. Data were obtained using the Physical Activities Scale for Elderly (PASE) physical activity questionnaire and cognitive function using the MMSE and analyzed using Man Whitney U. The physical activity of the elderly was categorized as good 43.3% and physical activity less 56.7%. Cognitive function in the elderly is 36.7% with undisturbed cognitive function, 40% with moderate cognitive function and 23.3% with severe cognitive function. The results of the mann-whitney test obtained p value = 0.003 <0.05 that there is a significant relationship between physical activity and cognitive function in the elderly in the elderly foster home in Papua Province. There is a relationship between physical activity and cognitive function in the elderly at elderly foster home in Papua Province.
