Abstract

Diabetes mellitus or diabetes is a non-communicable disease. In this disease the pancreas cannot produce insulin optimally. According to data from the Sleman Hospital, the number of patients with diabetes mellitus undergoing hospitalization in 2021 is 176 patients with medical records at the Sleman Hospital, (2022). Handling to treat diabetes mellitus can be done by pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment, while pharmacological treatment such as insulin administration and oral hypoglycemia medication. While non-pharmacological treatment, one of which can be done with progressive muscle relaxation therapy (Trisnawati et al., 2020). Progressive muscle relaxation therapy is a therapy that focuses on muscle tension and then relaxes the muscles again. In addition to relaxing muscles, this therapy can also reduce stress which can cause an increase in blood sugar levels (Mashudi, 2012). Descriptive which provides an overview or describes using assessment techniques, data collection, and report the results of the implementation carried out. After 3 days of relaxation therapy with a frequency of 2 times a day and a duration of 15 minutes it was found that there was a decrease in blood sugar levels after therapy, namely before therapy the patient's blood sugar level was 243 mg/dl and after therapy dropped to 144 mgdl. That progressive muscle relaxation therapy can reduce blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. It is hoped that it can be used as education for the community about how to reduce blood sugar levels with progressive muscle relaxation therapy independently at home and is expected to be a source of knowledge in the morning of health education about progressive muscle relaxation therapy which is a non-pharmacological therapy used to reduce blood sugar levels.
