Abstract

Chronic kidney failure is a disorder of renal function in which the body fails to maintain metabolism, fluid and electrolyte balance. The problems experienced by these patients are anxiety, anxiety in patients such as worrying about something without cause and feeling uncertain. Handling to overcome anxiety in patients can be done by giving progressive muscle relaxation therapy. This technique can be used to reduce anxiety because the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system work oppositely. Sympathetic nerves are more active when the body experiences anxiety or tension. In this condition, the sympathetic nervous system will increase the heart rate. In contrast, muscle relaxation goes hand in hand with an autonomic response from the parasympathetic nervous system. The parasympathetic nervous system controls activities that take place during calming of the body, so that anxiety will be reduced by doing progressive relaxation. To describe how to reduce anxiety in patients with kidney failure in Dahlia Room 2 RSUP Dr. Sardjito. Data collection by observation and interviews. Provision of therapeutic procedures by measuring the level of anxiety before and after being given therapy 2 times a day for 3 days on 25-27 June 2022. The results before and after being given therapy on the first day were a total score of 56 and 48 (very severe anxiety), day second the total score is 42 (severe anxiety) and 33 (moderate anxiety), the third day the total score is 30 (severe anxiety) and 24 (moderate anxiety). The average result of therapy in the first hour is 42 and given therapy in the second hour is 35. Progressive muscle relaxation therapy can help to reduce anxiety in patients with chronic kidney failure.
