Introduction: Stroke is a condition where there is a neurological deficit caused by a disturbance in the brain vasculature. One of the neurological deficits in stroke patients is difficulty chewing and swallowing (dysphagia). Interventions that can be done to overcome dysphagia are Shaker Exercises that can strengthen the suprahyoid muscles in the neck which increase the upward and forward movement of the hyoid bone and larynx. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Shaker Exercise Intervention Strategy on the Functional Ability of the Vagus Nerve in Stroke Patients in 2022. Methods: The study design used a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest with Shaker Exercise Intervention on the Functional Ability of the Vagus Nerve in Stroke Patients at a Private Hospital in Yogyakarta. The sampling technique used purposive sampling, with the inclusion criteria of stroke patients (hemorrhagic and ischemic) who were treated, compos mentis consciousness, systolic blood pressure: 120-150 mmHg and diastolic: 70-90 mmHg, experiencing disorders of the vagus nerve. While the exclusion criteria; were patients with aphasia, patients with an endotracheal tube (ET) inserted, and patients with increased ICP. Bivariate analysis used a non-parametric statistical pair difference test, namely the Wilcoxon test. Result: the majority of age > 55 years (84.3%), male gender (77.1%), Elementary Education (57.1%), not working (61.4%). The results of the analysis of different tests p = 0.000, respiratory rate regurgitation p = 0.000, and the value of Digestive Sensation p = 0.005. Conclusion: there is a difference between swallowing ability, respiratory rate regurgitation, digestive sensation before and before the intervention. Shaker Exercise can significantly improve the function of the Vagus Nerve. Suggestion: The results of this study can be used as a basis for the preparation of Standard Operating Procedure on Shaker Exercise to improve the ability of the Vagus Nerve.
